![]() (Which I think behaves strangely because, instead of appearing whenever a part of the text is highlighted, it has to be summoned using a keyboard shortcut.) The app's not made exclusively for Markdown, though those who are unfamiliar with the syntax can also write in a rich text environment that allows formatting with a cute yet elegant popover window. In addition to the complete Markdown support, there’s also a built-in Markdown previewer which doubles as a "reading mode". I write in Markdown because plain text is plain awesome, and Byword is a perfect companion for writing in plain text. ![]() choose a font and a size, stick to them, then begin writing. I often find myself fiddling with how a particular font looks instead of carrying on with my writing, although it can be overcome simply by discipline, e.g. The one to change the font type and size, however, can be distracting. The option to choose between light and dark theme is a great feature as it is especially useful in adjusting my writing space look with the ambient lighting condition when it is well-lit, I write with the light theme and when it’s late at night, the dark one. The lack of customization options, with the only ones being the light/dark theme as well as font type and size options, is, paradoxically, what makes Byword great. This is my preferred mode of focus as it allows me to write without being distracted by everything else that I’ve already written. The latter not only let me focus on the one line that I'm writing in, it also centers it on the screen, which imitates how a real typewriter works, hence the name. The former two let me focus on their respective parts of the document while dimming the rest. That feature is its three focus modes: line focus, paragraph focus, and typewriter mode. This minimalistic, distraction-free writing app has one feature that I come to appreciate more the more I use it. I've been using it since the good ol' Snow Leopard times and never once did it fail me. If you do a lot of writing Byword will help you focus by this *making a physical gesture of stretching both my arms as far away as I can from each other* much.
